Unraveling Revelation: What Happens on the Day of the Lord?

The Day of the Lord is referenced dozens of times in scripture. It describes a “great and terrible day” when the wrath of God is poured out upon an unrepentant world.

This week, we discuss the characteristics of the Day of the Lord. They include:

  • It comes suddenly (1 Thess. 5:2–4; 2 Peter 3:10; Rev. 3:3, 16:15)

  • It’s a day of battle (Eze. 38 & 39; Zeph. 1:16; Rev. 16:14–16, 19:11–21)
  • God judges the nations (Eze. 39; Isa. 13:11–12; Joel 3:9–14; Oba. 15–16; Mal. 4:1–3)
  • Global destruction (Joel 1:15, 2:3; Zeph. 1:15–18; 1 Thess. 5:3; 2 Peter 3:10)
  • God saves a remnant from Israel (Isa. 2:2–4, 4:2–6, 11:1–13; Zech. 14:16–17; Her. 30:18–31:40; Micah 4; Zech. 13; Joel 2:18–19, 32; Jer. 30:8; Rom. 11:25–27)
  • The death of the “gods” (Isa. 2:18; 24:21–23, 26:13–27:1; Psalm 82)
  • God is exalted in all the earth (Isaiah 2:17; Ezekiel 39:7)
