So open-minded their brains have fallen out

It’s a shame the Episcopal Church doesn’t serve a God who lives up to their enlightened standards:

The Episcopal church in the Diocese of Washington, D.C., passed a resolution last week to stop using masculine pronouns for God in future updates to its Book of Common Prayer.

The resolution to stop using “gendered language for God” was passed quickly by delegates to the Diocese’s 123rd Convention.

YHWH is just so narrow-minded and, you know, patriarchal. I mean, all He did was come to Earth as a human and willingly sacrifice Himself to redeem us from eternity in the Lake of Fire. How does that give Him the right to self-identify as male?

And then the Creator presumes to tell us we’re binary?!*

Great googly moogly. So, what — is God barred from ECUSA churches in D.C. until He identifies as Xe, Sie, Hir, Co, or Ey?

But Clergy delegate The Rev. Linda R. Calkins from St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Laytonsville, Maryland, challenged the delegates to go further.

Calkins read from Genesis Chapter 17, in which God tells Abraham “I am El Shaddai.” She said that if Episcopalians “are going to be true to what El Shaddai means, it means God with breasts.”

No, it doesn’t.

Shadday is a Hebrew cognate for the Akkadian word šadu, which means “mountain.” One of the epithets of Amurru, the eponymous god of the Amorites, was Bel Šade — “lord of the mountain.” Do they not teach context in feminist theology?

What hubris: Telling God He can’t be who He says He is. In what sense is the ECUSA still Christian?

* Genesis 1:27, Mark 10:6. Looks pretty binary to me.
