The spectacle of a man who was supposed to be signing for the deaf at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela, only three feet away from President Obama and other world leaders, was at once disturbing, amusing, and encouraging.
Disturbing that a guy who obviously wasn’t vetted — he did something similar last January — was in close proximity to dozens of heads of state. Amusing that he pulled it off, which, notwithstanding the disrespect to Mandela, has to be one of the greatest hoaxes of the modern era. Somebody was fooled into hiring him.
But it is also encouraging to know that the world’s security and intelligence services are not all-knowing and all-seeing after all. If this phony can bluff his way into a spotlight gig in front of the most powerful people in the world and millions of television viewers around the globe, then it may be a while yet before they can herd us all into serfdom under a one-world government.
And you gotta love the guy’s explanation:
Following the event, the 34-year-old said he had a history of violent schizophrenic episodes and may have hallucinated that angels were flying into the stadium.
Right. And the hand waving was what — ground control signals?
