I hate to be skeptical in the wake of a senseless atrocity like this, but I would not be surprised to see this used in the weeks ahead as justification for increased surveillance of citizens with no prior indications of violent behavior here in the U.S. — especially fundamentalist Christians who speak out against militant Islam.
This evil act has already been described as Norway’s Oklahoma City, a reference to the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in OKC. In some quarters, the Oklahoma City bombing is still blamed on fundamentalist Christians.
