President Obama seems bound and determined to hand Congress back to the GOP in November:
The White House on Saturday struggled to tamp down the controversy over President Barack Obama’s statements about a mosque near Ground Zero — insisting Obama wasn’t backing off remarks Friday night where he offered support for a project that has infuriated some families whose loved ones died in the Sept. 11 attacks.
Obama’s comments placed him in the middle of the controversy over a Muslim group’s plans for a mosque near the site of the 2001 attack — and in turn, transformed an emotion-laden local dispute in New York into a nationwide debate overnight.
The president is correct. Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf has the right to build his cultural center there. But, to paraphrase Paul, just because it’s legal doesn’t make it wise.
Worse, the State Department is sending the imam on a goodwill tour of the oil-rich Persian Gulf that some see as a fundraising junket that’s being paid for by American taxpayers.
Taxpayers that, according to CNN, oppose the Ground Zero Mosque by more than a two-to-one margin.
Meanwhile, Michelle “Antionette” Obama just returned from a swanky holiday on the Mediterranean, a vacation that knocked 16 points off her public approval rating. She’s now less popular with Americans than Laura Bush was at the lowest point of George W’s presidency. You’d think a politician with any sense would think twice before sending his wife off to a $2,500-a-night hotel when the nation’s real unemployment rate has been around 22% for the last year.
The arrogance and insensitivity are breathtaking. Either President Obama is completely clueless or he is absolutely devoid of empathy.
