Shoes for the Depression of 2009

Pictured at right are Michelle Obama’s $540 Lanvin sneakers. Suede, with grosgrain ribbon laces and metallic pink toe caps, if you’re keeping score.

Anyone who wears casual shoes that cost five hundred bucks has nothing whatsoever in common with anybody I know.

In fact, this proves that I’m smarter than Michelle Obama. Last Thursday, my entire wardrobe, including Rockport shoes, Dockers, Izod polo shirt, and King Louie jacket, cost us less than $20.

Of course, you compromise a little on selection when you shop resale shops and flea markets, but Michelle and her hubby might learn something about reality if they shopped where we do.
