When “drawdown” means “more troops”

I’m no prophet, but I knew when it was announced that the “surge” was just a euphemism for “escalation”:

President Bush declined Saturday to promise more U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq before he leaves office, and underscored the need for a strong military presence during Iraqi provincial elections in October.

Uh huh. That’s why American troop levels after the “surge” will be higher than before.

Meanwhile, National Guard troops are deploying to Kosovo. When does this empire-building end?
