I was right — dammit

We no longer live according to the Constitution of the United States.

In the last paragraph of an article by Charlie Savage of the Boston Globe, the reporter who alerted the public to President Bush’s use of the “signing statement” to justify ignoring laws passed by Congress, was this ominous little detail:

Among the presidential candidates, Mitt Romney, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama have said they would issue signing statements if elected. John McCain said he would not.

This is an outrage. The president of the United States does not have the authority to ignore laws he or she doesn’t like. The American public needs to demand an end to this, now. We’ll regret it if we don’t.
