The team that backed into the NL playoffs now has a 3-2 lead over the Mets. With Chris Carpenter pitching tomorrow night, the Cardinals have a real good chance of making it back to the World Series for the second time in three years.
It’s the Ex-Cub Factor, you know. After last season’s playoff loss, the Cards wisely rid themselves of Julian Tavares, Ray King, Mark Grudzielanek, and Mike Mahoney, and currently have an excellent ECF of 0.
The Mets, meanwhile, are saddled with Steve Trachsel and Michael Tucker.
So the Cardinals will win the NLCS and advance to the World Series against Detroit, a matchup that will evoke memories of the classic 1968 series of Gibson, Lolich, et al.
But with the late season pickup of Neifi Perez from the Cubs, the Tigers have doomed themselves. The Cardinals will be the World Series champions for 2006.
