A Sneak Peek at “Iron Dragons” — Book One of “The Saramond Quests”
Iron Dragons by Derek P. Gilbert will be released in early 2006
Dragon pee really stinks.
I share this with you as a friendly word of advice should you ever consider a career in dragon extermination. Don’t say you were never warned.
I know of nothing that matches the stench of a dragon’s urine, except perhaps armor that has been doused with it and then worn into battle on a hot summer afternoon. The stink never washes out completely, no matter how one tries, but good, well-fitted armor is worth its weight in gold in these times. It’s better to get used to it, if you can.
Doing battle with dragons is not for the faint of heart or the weak of stomach.
What causes the odor, I do not know, nor do I care. Some function of the beasts’ internal workings, I suppose, fueled by a diet so foul that I will not offend the reader with a description here. I do know, from personal experience, that the vile creatures seem to enjoy spraying their fluids over opponents in combat, usually at times most inconvenient. Not only does it stink, but dragon piss burns the eyes and brings bile to the throat.
The job also requires a clear head — something I did not possess on the day my tale begins.
