Jesus called us to love God with all our hearts, souls, and minds. This pastor is settling for two out of three:
WAYNESVILLE, N.C., May 7 — Some in Pastor Chan Chandler’s flock wish he had a little less zeal for the GOP.
Members of the small East Waynesville Baptist Church say Chandler led an effort to kick out congregants who did not support President Bush. Nine members were voted out at a Monday church meeting in this mountain town about 120 miles west of Charlotte. Forty others in the 400-member congregation resigned in protest.
While the GOP at least publicly supports a nominally Christian platform, neither party is exactly fighting for Christ. Republicans are leading the charge to gut the the Constitution with the PATRIOT Act, the Real ID Act, LOST, CAFTA, and FTAA. They’re getting away with it because the nominal Christians in this country either refuse to believe that George W. would ever do anything to hurt them, or because they’re convinced that the Democrats would somehow be even worse.
If he is truly a man of God, Pastor Chandler is going to wake up one morning and kick himself. Hard. When that day comes, I pray he has the heart to ask for forgiveness.
