Tim Challies analyzes Rick Warren’s first column for Ladies Home Journal, and finds him sliding further into New Age spirituality:
March’s column is called “Learn to Love Yourself.” He begins the column with the words, “Self-esteem still wobbly after all these years? These five simple truths will show you that you don’t need to be perfect to be priceless.” Warren then writes briefly about five different points: Accept Yourself, Love Yourself, Be True To Yourself, Forgive Yourself, Believe in Yourself.
Reading through Warren’s bullet points is like listening to a Joel Osteen sermon. It’s no wonder these two men are the most popular preachers in America. They tell us that we’re okay just the way we are.
Couldn’t be further from the truth. “For there is none righteous; no, not one.” “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.”
What do Rick and Joel know that Paul and John didn’t?
