The other shoe of the Sosa trade dropped today with the signing of Rockies free agent Jeromy Burnitz. The 35-year-old hit .283 with 37 home runs for Colorado last year. A stopgap measure, probably, but he’s a left-handed bat with power, which is something you can never have enough of. Look for the left and right-field spots at Wrigley to be shared between Burnitz, Hollandsworth, Dubois, Hairston, and Macias in 2005.
It will still be an improvement over the 2004 versions of Moises Alou and Sammy Sosa.
