If you haven’t kept up with the flap over Dr. James Dobson’s remarks about Spongebob Squarepants and homosexuality–good. Dr. Dobson spoke out against a campaign to use a number of popular children’s TV characters, including Spongebob, to promote “diversity”, which in postmodernspeak often means “homosexuality”.
The New York Times led the charge to take Dr. Dobson’s comments out of context to make him look foolish. It’s become a rerun of the Jerry Falwell/Teletubbies flap a couple of years ago.
Now comes the United Church of Christ to try to use the situation to its advantage:
SpongeBob meets with the Rev. John H. Thomas, the UCC’s general minister and president, in his office. Explains Thomas, “No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, SpongeBob, you’re welcome here.”
It’s like we’re not dealing with people’s eternal souls here.
