Slip of the Tongue?

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld Friday in Mosul, Iraq:

“I think all of us have a sense if we imagine the kind of world we would face if the people who bombed the mess hall in Mosul, or the people who did the bombing in Spain, or the people who attacked the United States in New York, shot down the plane over Pennsylvania and attacked the Pentagon, the people who cut off peoples’ heads on television to intimidate, to frighten – indeed the word ‘terrorized’ is just that. Its purpose is to terrorize, to alter behavior, to make people be something other than that which they want to be.”
(Emphasis added)

The official story since 9/11 has been that valiant passengers overpowered the hijackers and forced United Airlines Flight 93 to crash in western Pennsylvania.

At least five witnesses claim a “military-type” plane was in the area when Flight 93 crashed, raising the question of whether the Air Force or Air National Guard shot it down before it could reach Washington, D.C.

The Defense Department has already issued a retraction. The question is whether the neocons who want to throw Rumsfeld to the wolves will use this slip as ammunition.
