Rick Morrissey of the Chicago Tribune sums up the Steve Stone Affair:
The fans might have spike marks from being stomped on so often, but they’re not going to forget who was responsible for the departure of the best TV baseball analyst in the country. [Kent] Mercker and Moises Alou might want to wear catcher’s equipment in case there’s more than concrete falling at Wrigley Field.
It’s going to be real hard for me to work up a lot of enthusiasm for “next year” after the way Cubs’ management took the side of whiny, underachieving players over Steve Stone. Wherever Stoney lands, he’ll be better appreciated than the players who ran him off.
