Has there ever been a more limp-wristed defense than the one Dan Rather put out over network television (with a straight face, somehow) Friday night?
“Today, on the internet and elsewhere, some people — including many who are partisan political operatives — concentrated not on the key questions the overall story raised but on the documents that were part of the support of the story.”
If the documents are fake, there are no questions that can be legimately raised, and thus, no story. Rather knew this.
It was a sad, desperate attempt by a journalist who was watching forty years of his public career unravel before his very eyes–thanks to a bunch of guys in pajamas.
