Call Me Joe Dirtsville

Sometimes it’s instructive to look in on Democratic Underground, just to take the pulse of the hard-core liberal left:

Since tomorrow is the anniversary of the “excuse” the cowboy uses to attack anybody he wants to. I’m bracing myself for the ongoing images of people in small red state towns exploiting the victims of 9/11.

CNN is already showing people in small town Texas CRYING over New York City’s loses. Well, you know what. You never liked New Yorkers. You hated New Yorkers remember. If you really cared about the victims of 9/11 you would vote for John Kerry because that’s the only thing they want you to do. But NO! Instead you brought the Bush bastard’s convention to ground Zero and thought NYC would be glad to see you.

Instead of getting flowers and candy you got protesters, a half a million of them that said. GO HOME. Do you remember the Evita song…

Let’s get this straight, Dirtsville, IT DIDN’T HAPPEN TO YOU and it never will because no self respecting terra-rist would ever attack something so unimportant. It would be like the USA attacking Goatsgrave Yemen. It’s never going to happen.

The bottom line is, you don’t care about NYC or the pain, all you care about is getting Boosh re-elected and fighting a Holy pissing contest with the darkie Muslims. All in the name of Jesus which you’re sure is coming back the day after tomorrow.

I originally posted a much more sarcastic response to the post above. It’s easy to fall to the temptation of throwing out a cutting remark, in order to look cool or maintain credentials with the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

After I went to bed last night, however, I realized that my mocking tone was inconsistent with the command of Jesus to love even our enemies, speaking the truth in love, with gentleness and respect.

I did not, and have not on other occasions here in this forum, and for that I am sorry.

What strikes me about the DU post above is the raw hatred that oozes from the monitor like effluent from a sewer pipe. It is sad that so many people, on the left and on the right (take a look at sometime), feel the only way to relate to those who disagree is with unrestrained hatred.

Which is exactly what Satan wants.

The tragedy is that the person who authored the post above is so consumed with the burning desire to destroy her “enemies” that she’s unable to imagine that anyone in “Dirtsville” could possibly empathize with those who suffered loss on 9/11. In her mind, Dirtsville remembers 9/11 because it will help get “Boosh re-elected”.

What she doesn’t understand is that a lot of us out here in Dirtsville really do understand loss, and heartbreak, and pain. The tragic sight of those who leapt to their deaths as the towers burned was enough to bring us all to our knees, whether we personally knew someone in the towers or not.

There may be no way to persuade someone like her that there really are people who care, who love, and who sacrifice unselfishly out here in Dirtsville–and that not all of us are darkie-killin’, mouth-breathing, gap-toothed inbreds. If so, Jesus said the proper response is to move on to the next town, shaking the city’s dust from our sandals as a reproach as we leave.

Returning hate for hate changes nothing. I’ll try to do better.
