I don’t know who to be more annoyed with, the ACLU for threatening the lawsuit or the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for caving in.
You see, the ACLU objects to the cross in the LA County seal and has demanded that it be removed. See how long it takes you to find it:
This is silly. There is a Christian tradition in the area that dates from the arrival of Spanish missionaries over two hundred years ago. The county’s name means “the angels”. Wiping the cross off the seal won’t change history, it only obscures it. For what end? Why does the ACLU really care about this?
And why doesn’t it bother the ACLU that the woman on the seal is Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit trees and gardens?
