Senators Orrin Hatch of Utah and Gordon Smith of Oregon, both Republicans, plan to attach a new version of the Kennedy-Smith federal “hate crimes” law, which has been filed as an amendment to the defense authorization bill.
Supporters of the new version say it mitigates some of the more radical aspects of the Kennedy-Smith bill, but this bill should be torpedoed altogether. If it should pass, we’ll see the day, sooner rather than later, that speaking out against homosexuality in any form, even quoting certain Bible verses, will be a prosecutable offense.
An exaggeration? It’s already happened in Canada.
