The culture war in America gets a lot more interesting. George W. Bush angers the homosexuals and their supporters by proposing the amendment to define marriage. Meanwhile, the political right is angry because the proposed amendment allows states to create “civil unions”.
The amendment, then, would basically just protect the word marriage. On the other hand, it would frustrate the homosexual lobby’s goal, which is not the benefit of legal marriage, but the normalization of their lifestyle choice.
I understand the president’s political situation, but Christians need to understand he’s not really taking a stand for the faith here.
Ultimately, this is a state’s rights issue. But the political left won’t leave it there; they want it thrown to the courts, and preferably the Supreme Court. Which is exactly why San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is deliberately breaking the law.
