Jump, Jive, and Wail

One of the multi-station radio conglomerates had a bright idea: They filled a wasted space on the FM dial in Saint Louis with swingin’ jazz.

Sinatra, Martin, Louis Prima, Harry Connick Jr., Brian Setzer, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy–wow! On FM, no less. My daughter tipped me to it, and she’s been listening non-stop since Saturday.

Ooh, ouch. Just heard Norah Jones’ “New York City (Such a Beautiful Disease)”. It doesn’t fit. Sounds like a Bonnie Raitt tune. If I wanted adult rock, I’d listen to the station that plays it all day long.

Hmm. I’m slipping back into radio program director mode, something I haven’t done in a long time. Been out of radio for over ten years, and I don’t miss it. Funny–I used to pick the hits and set the music mix for a Top 40 station in one of the twnty biggest markets in the U.S., and now I couldn’t tell you any one song or artist in the top ten on Billboard’s chart.

And I couldn’t care less.
