This sort of slipped under the radar a couple weeks back. Wesley Clark, on Chris Matthews’ Hardball, actually said he’d let the EU dictate American responses to security threats. From the MSNBC transcript:
And I would say to the Europeans, I pledge to you as the American president that we’ll consult with you first. You get the right of first refusal on the security concerns that we have. We’ll bring you in.
Actually, his position doesn’t seem that different from Howard Dean’s or John Kerry’s, but as far as I know, he’s the first one to say in so many words that he’d give up our sovereign right to act unilaterally if and when the need arises.
