Howard Dean continues his theme of alienating everyone who might help him become president. Today in Florida, Dr. Dean reached out to Southern voters by telling them they have to quit basing their votes on “race, guns, God and gays.“
Let’s see. What are the main issues turning white, middle-class voters against the Democratic party?
- Racial quotas
- The right to own guns
- “A woman’s right to choose” (to kill an unborn child)
- Homosexual marriage
So in other words, Dr. Dean believes he is the perfect candidate for Southerners who want to give up almost everything they believe in.
That’s the dilemma of running for national office as a Democrat in 2003. To win your party’s nomination, you have to appeal to radical interest groups that are pushing agendas opposed by 60 to 70 percent of America.
Senator Zell Miller (D-Ga.) draws the right conclusion in his new book, A National Party No More: The Democratic Party as it exists today cannot field a serious presidential candidate.
