Baker’s Dozen

The Cubs showed some bat last night, beating the Marlins 12-3. Shortstop Alex Gonzales appears to have broken out of a slump that’s lasted since the All-Star break in July. He’s 5 for 9 with three home runs in the last two games.

Still, the Marlins have to feel they did what they needed to do, winning one of the two games at Wrigley Field. The series is tied 1-1 with the next three games in Miami.

Keep in mind, though, that the Cubs play just as well on the road as they do at home. They won two of the three games against the Braves in Atlanta.
