The End For Arafat
The Jerusalem Post has finally put what must be the sentiment of many Israelis into print:
“We must kill Yasser Arafat, because the world leaves us no alternative.”
This editorial, dated Wednesday, September 10, is likely to generate a firestorm of protest from the West. Liberals will denouce it as barbaric, and even some who are sympathetic to Israel will feel squeamish about the finality of the proposed solution.
I think the Jerusalem Post is right.
Think about this: What if a modern-day Pancho Villa were directing a guerilla campaign against Texas, and the homemade bombs killing women and children in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa were exploding instead in Brownsville, Laredo, and Houston? And what if Pancho’s homicide bombers had killed 800 Americans over the last three years?
How long would we wait before demanding that our government take him out?
Continuing to insist that Israel show restraint after the carnage they’ve suffered is hypocritical. The bombings continue because Arafat has been protected by the US and the EU. It’s time to turn Israel loose to defend itself as we most certainly would.
