Flashback to Childhood
Flashed back to one of my childhood loves this afternoon. After lunch, I heard the drone of turbocharged Pratt & Whitneys coming from somewhere overhead, and I looked out the window just in time to see one of these making a lazy turn over the Missouri River:
Consolidated B-24 Liberator
I was fascinated with World War II aircraft when I was ten or eleven. I read everything I could get my hands on about the air war over Europe, and the great bombers like the B-17 Flying Fortress and the B-24 Liberator, which is pictured here. It still amazes me that thousands of young men trusted their lives to airplanes built as many years before the personal computer as I’ve been alive.
The half a minute I was able to watch that B-24 today was golden.
