I guess it isn’t surprising that the French and the Germans are trying to block our move against Iraq. The Germans I can figure; they tend not to consider military action as an option, not since 1945.

The French, though–what’s with them? They’ve had military all over Africa and the Far East since the early ’50s. Why is Jacques Chirac squeamish about going after Iraq?

Christoper Hitchens hit it right on the head in his Wall Street Journal column over the weekend: Follow the francs. Filthy lucre, pure and simple. Any nation willing to extend an official invitation to Robert Mugabe automatically forfeits the moral high ground.
